を使って英訳する問題なのですが、



「これらの書類は重要なものではない。」



自分の答えは

These documents are not of importance.



解答は

These documents are of no importance.

でした。



自分の英訳では

間違っているのでしょうか？

これは文法の問題というよりは，文体の問題のような気がします。つまり



(These documents are) of importance



という言い方はたぶんほとんどせず，ふつう importance の前に何かを置かないとしっくり来ないようです。

they are of historical importance

theｙ are of little importance

theｙ are of no importance



どういう問題集をお使いか知りませんが，もともと格調高い文章語の表現で，私たちには上手に使えない言い方です。読んだ時に理解出来れば十分かと思います。英文を書くときには，かわりに，important / unimportant, useful / useless のような形容詞を使ったほうが無難です。また，会話ではまず使いません。

間違いとは言い切れないとは思いますが、

単にnotをつけるだけなら、

These documents are not important.

でいいわけで、

わざわざof importanceを使う必要性が少ないような。

of importanceを使うときは、importanceに形容詞をつけるために使うのだと思います。

つまり、

These documents are of great/little importance.

とか。

このほうが、

These documents are very important.

より、豊かな表現が可能だからではないでしょうか?



なので、

質問の場合は、

These documents are not of any importance.

か

These documents are of no importance.

になるでしょう。
